In the Shadow of 2020

The views expressed by this post do not necessarily represent the views held by the Water Vikings, or its leadership.

FROSTBITE, Pjayo’s Pizzeria — The year is 2025. Five years ago, the COVID-19 Pandemic ground the world to a halt. But, in that silence, Club Penguin Armies thrived in ways never seen before or since. With many hitting 70 online regularly, with dozens of armies alive and well, it’s hard to believe just how dire things had been three years prior. In 2017, Disney’s Club Penguin would go offline, never to return. The brand image was in tatters, the userbase rapidly shrinking, and there were seemingly bots everywhere on the island. Amazingly, things were even rougher for those who operated the bots. Armies had been in a slow decline since the highs of 2013, both in size and culture, but would completely nosedive in 2015. Cheating became rampant, actual community size tumbled and once great armies were rapidly running out of steam. It’s entirely within reason to say that the 2015-2017 stretch was the single worst era in Club Penguin Army history, and that recovery would seem impossible.

Yet despite everything, 2020 would roll around, and would grant the community what seemed to be a second chance. This time, we can keep this little game of ours alive. There were problems, yes, but it seemed the community had grabbed onto a third golden age. Fast forward to 2022. Another case for the worst era in CPA history, where the amount of active armies seemed to dwindle to eight, wars were hardly fought, and if they were, it was a match to see who would blink and break the increasingly ludicrous amount of rules first. Tournaments barely functioned, with claims of collusion with the judges coming from all corners, sizes were what could be deemed a historical average, if not in a mild slump. This time, barring a second world ending pandemic, it seemed that the end was truly drawing near for the black sheep of Club Penguin.

The year is 2025. Club Penguin Armies seem as healthy as ever. A thriving media landscape, very healthy sizes, a dynamic army scene, with more than enough armies to fill out a top ten. Seemingly out of nowhere, armies have made a full recovery from what seemed like one of the lowest points in its history. Yes, it might finally be time to declare 2025 the fourth golden age, following in the footsteps of 2009, 2013, and 2020.

Or, that would be the case, if there wasn’t something missing. Something that is seemingly on the minds of every great thinker in this community, from every army, and from every rank within the media and judging wings. Arguably the single most important part of this game, the very backbone of its creation. Where the hell are all the wars? Continue reading

Regarding Rumors

UPDATE: Mare, after directly viewing the evidence, has agreed that there was no conspiracy to “protect” Mei. Leave the leaders and HCOV alone.

The contents of this post involve allegations of grooming, in graphic detail. Continue reading at your own discretion.

Welcome to This Year’s Political Fad, Anarchic Authoritarianism (And You Can Strangle The Life Out of CPA, Too!)

FROSTBITE, Pjayo’s Pizzeria — A post in this vein is something I’ve been eager to make for the last few months or so, but I struggled to really pinpoint a good reason to put my feelings out there in any formal matter. However, with the recent disaster that has been Legends Cup XII, it seems like my anger has finally boiled over to the point of no return, as I find myself authoring this article. It’s long, but I highly encourage every member of the community to put some time aside and read this, as it addresses many of the problems we face.

Change Da World; My Final Message

Howdy WV!

As some of you (most of you) probably noticed, I have not been active at all! A lot of this just has to do with what I’m doing IRL. However, let me assure you I’ve been working behind the scenes where I can, helping guide both the LITs and other leaders in places they may need it. However, with this in mind, plus my upcoming vacation and classes starting back up soon, I’ve decided to step down to an advisory position. Ultimately my main reason for this is down to Legends Cup being delayed indefinitely, and not wanting to hold the position of leader if I’m not taking an active role.

I won’t make this a long post, but I do have some people I want to thank. Aaron, Buddy, Adden namely, who I’ve known for nearly a decade at this point. I want to thank Aaron for giving me the chance to help out again, and I want to thank Buddy and Adden for being there and voicing their opinions on internal matters, as well as helping with events. I also want to thank our LITs, namely Dino and Mabel, who I’ve seen turn into more than capable leaders, and who I hope to see leading this army soon. I’d even like to thank people like Xing, Sweater, and Revan who despite my opinions on you and your associated armies, acted as great motivation to see WV succeed. And succeed it has! We saw WV hit 2nd place on the top ten, which is incredible given where it was earlier this year. This is where I thank the rest of you for making that sort of success possible.

I do have one more thing to say, and this one is aimed at the community at large. Keep in mind this is MY opinion, not that of WV itself. Those of you who’ve spoken to me on this matter know how I feel about the current status of CPA, and the structures that make up this community. With this in mind, I must ask you to consider WHY I feel this way about our community, and why I want it to change. Further, what can YOU do to help this community? Making your own army perhaps? Letting your opinion on both army and community affairs be heard? There’s no reason to avoid making your voice heard on these matters.

With the above out of the way, once again I’d like to thank my fellow leaders, associates, my army, and this community for letting me have one more go. I’ll still be around and you can always come and talk if you’d like, but it’s time that I take a step back.

WV FOREVER!
