KLONDIKE, Tournament Battlefield – Hello everyone! Welcome to the second edition of “This Week in CP Armies”. Are you curious to know what happened on this exact week a few years ago? Join me in this journey to the Spring Smackdown Tournament that took place in May 2014.
The Spring Smackdown was a tournament created in 2014 based on real-life tournaments with the same name. The first edition of this tournament, organized by CPA Central, began in April and ended in May. A total of 20 armies participated and it had 5 rounds: Qualifiers, Divisionals, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and Finals. Seven years ago in this same week, the community watched the Semi-finals and the Finals of the tournament.
The Semi-finals happened on May 10th and May 11th. The first battle was between the Rebel Penguin Federation and the Doritos of Club Penguin. RPF, the holder of 1st spot on the top ten armies that week, was the favorite to advance to the finals. However, it was much narrower than many expected, and both armies maxed the same: 30 penguins online. In the end, DCP won the battle and went to the finals.
The second battle of the semi-finals was between the Army of Club Penguin and the Golds. ACP entered this battle as the favorites and had double the Golds’ size for a good portion of the battle. In the end, ACP won and passed to the finals.
On May 17th, 2014, precisely seven years ago, the Army of Club Penguin and the Doritos of Club Penguin faced each other at the final round of the Spring Smackdown Tournament. In a battle that took place throughout the Iceberg, Ice Rink, and Snow Forts, the Clover Defenders came out victorious in all rooms, winning the tournament. A Livestream replay of the battle, by Superoo13, is below:

If you are curious about where were the Water Vikings, we fought until the quarter-finals where we lost against the Doritos. According to the judges, it was a close battle, and both armies got 25 penguins online.

Exactly seven years ago we saw our allies DCP and ACP facing each other in a friendly way and today we see them at war. Who will win this time? Can’t predict but I’m sure it will be interesting to watch. Stay tuned for the next edition of the Ocean Oracle.
