Frostbite, Water VikingsCapital— One two, one two testing, one two… Hello Water Vikings! Welcome back to a new interview in the column: Road to Legends Cup! If you missed last week’s interview, we sat down with our favourite Mango: Ango! In this: Road to the Legend Cup: Interview, we sat down with our Water Vikings favourite Deltarune lover, Rye.
In this week’s episode, we sat down with Rye, ex-Viking Commander, who took part in two Legends Cup (2024 & 2025). During her last participation in LC, she was on the team that made Water Vikings reach the semi-finals against RPF.
When did you join WV?
I joined WV officially on April 9 2024.
Tell us a bit about yourself. What rank did you reach, and what did you achieve before retiring?
Well I joined armies back in 2020 and was thrown right into Legends Cup. I spent the rest of that year climbing up the ranks in Dark Warriors until I became staff. Unfortunately they closed down that fall, and so did my army journey… for like 2 years. Then I got recruited into Pandor’s Secret Service and was a Third in Command until the summer of 2022, where the army got defaced and therefore, shut down. Midsummer, I was recruited into LEGOMAN’s SWAT as a Leader in Training, and thrown into back-to-back wars involving WV, TCP, ACP, DV, and HF. Sure we lost the 4v1 wars, but we did beat RPF in Legends Cup that year. I left SWAT to make my own army in the start of 2023, and for a time it was the best S/M army, reaching #5 on the top tens. There were many wars, flaky alliances, and internal drama, but it was all a learning curve for me. Making an army from scratch without many connections is much harder than I initially anticipated. But I learned many valuable skills in motivational speaking, problem solving, making graphics, and army based things like writing tactics, war terms, creating a website, and foreign relations. Following an abrupt end to that army, I was messaged by Dino with an offer to join the WV ranks as a Second in Command. I immediately took the offer, and once again, was thrown into 2 wars back-to-back, against Templars and ACP respectively. I became a leader that summer and led the Vikings through many tournaments, most notably winning Candy Crush Brawl, and getting to the semi finals in Legends Cup XV. During my leadership we [my fellow leaders and advisors] spent a long time rebuilding the army so that it would last long after our retirement. This included the introduction of Viking Academy, committees, and more intense training events, just to name a few.
I also spent the time to make banners, profiles, and battle/tournament posters for WV. This was a lot of fun to do and my confidence in making art increased a lot. I would also edit videos for the WV YouTube channel, and plan special events such as Operation: Ocean Steadfast, and the LCXV Awards. After my retirement, I was ranked as a Viking Luminary, where I remain today.
At first, were you excited for Legends Cup?
Absolutely! Legends Cup in my opinion is the best tournament of the year, and our team was strong, motivated, and united.
When did you first start to feel that everyone was starting to work a lot harder?
The event was titled “Road to Legends Cup” that we hosted in the beginning of July. We had recently recruited a lot of experienced staff members from the community, and had one of the best trainings I have ever seen. I couldnt stop smiling. I told myself “holy shit, we can really win this”. That day we had reached 44 max, and the week before, we were maxing 25 if we were lucky. This was a huge leap forward for us, and marked the start of the LC grind.
What did you see from others and the army as a whole that motivated you?
I joined WV at the same time that I got fired from a job I really enjoyed. I was unstable, messy, lazy… and that lingered into my work in Water Vikings. That changed when I realized WV was dying, and it wasnt because the staff werent doing their jobs, no, it was because their leader wasnt motivated enough to motivate everyone else. I was their leader. So I stepped up, and immediately saw how much potential this army still had. Thanks to people like Aaron, Pjayo, and eventually Cobra, they pushed me to be a better leader, and a better friend. My connections with the staff improved, making our team stronger, more organized, and overall we felt more like a family rather than a “staff team” like before. Feeling this sense of community is honestly something Ive never felt before during my time in CPA. I really loved it and thats what motivated me.
What achievements during LC were you most proud of from yourself and the army?
A personal achievement I’m proud of was tieing a room with RPF in the semi finals. If you were there, you know how strong they were that day. This was the first time I really led a battle against them that mattered. I did everything I could. I was locked out of the room I was leading. I had no idea what we even looked like until maybe the last 3 minutes. So seeing that I tied my room with them, made that day just a little bit better.
But my true answer is, I’m very proud of one project that I wasnt involved in very much, and that is the retention committee. If not for that group, our trainings would have failed to reach the troops that needed it most. They taught new people how to play the game, and why we played it. They were patient, and kind to everyone. They gave our troops a reason to battle, a reason to aim for staff and grow within the community, and I think thats extremely powerful.
Based on our performance from last year and the momentum we have so far this year, do you think we can win LC this year?
To the troops, keep attending trainings, and ask questions! We love to talk about this stuff, and help you become a stronger Viking for when tournament season comes around. The battles will be chaotic, but you are a significant piece in this. Dont be AFK. Know where you are at all times. But most importantly, have fun!
To the staff & HCOM, put yourself out there. Dont be the one to think someone else will do the work for you, because you know you can do it. Make tactics or train troops, be active and create art. Also dont be AFK. Be proud when you make history in this community.
Anything to add?
