Vikings Through The Ages : An Interview with Aaronstone and Kingfunks4

Greetings, Vikings!

As part of our month-long anniversary events, this limited time column has been created to look back at every eras and leaders of the past in the Water Vikings. Each piece will spotlight someone (or multiple people!) who braved the front lines and lead the army during their respective era. In this edition, I had the honour to interview both Aaronstone and KingFunks4, both being very influential figures of the Water Vikings history, having lead during the Blue Summer of 2013 and beyond. A few years after its creation, the Water Vikings had cemented themselves in the Club Penguin Army community, but how was it at the helm? Check out the interview below!

We’ll begin the interview with a short introduction.

Aaronstone : My name is Aaronstone and I am a Viking Pantheon whilst also serving as Head Guardian on the High Council of Vikings. I have been in and out of WV since 2013 when I first joined it.
KingFunks4 : Hi I am Kingfunks4 and I am a former leader of the Water Vikings, and retired Head Guardian on the High Council of Vikings. I have been in the army on and off since 2012, with the army becoming my permanent home.

How was the state of the game Club Penguin as a whole and CPA at the time?

Aaronstone : I would say Club Penguin and CPA in general were in a Golden Age so to speak, armies were doing well and so was the Club Penguin game, it was at peak popularity.
KingFunks4 : They were both thriving and at its peak I would say, although armies did decline slightly as CP started to drop off in popularity.

What about the armies? Which were present, which were relevant…

Aaronstone : God there were so many present back in the day. Of course the few that come to mind that are still around right now would be RPF and ACP. But there were other legendary armies still extremely active like UMA, Nachos, Ice Warriors and Doritos.
KingFunks4 : When I was leading I would say that there were a few armies that would push us for superiority. The Ice Warriors, ACP and Nachos were older armies that were quite successful at the time, but later on in the original armies it was RPF and DCP that would rise up and be our main challengers.

How would you describe your leadership of WV at that period of time?

Aaronstone : Honestly speaking I was nothing like how I was when I led WV again in 2021-2022, I would say I was moreso a behind the scenes type of guy, I spent most of my day getting yelled at by Bepboy and picking on old Kingfunks here😂
KingFunks 4 : I would say that I was quite clear with my vision and managed to get everyone on board. By the time I led WV, I had really managed to gain a lot of experience which helped. I was definitely dedicated to WV and trying anything to get us successful. Definitely didn’t get picked on by Aaron I would say it was the other way around!

What is the most memorable moment from your leadership?

Aaronstone : Probably hitting the highest sizes WV ever hit at that point in the armies history, WV for the most part until 2013 was a fringe SM army so the sizes and TT rankings we were able to achieve together was a huge moment for us.
KingFunks4 : I would say it was reaching the Legends Cup final for the first time. It really showcased our rise from medium obscurity to a player on the major stage. Although we lost in controversial circumstances, it was a proud moment and set us up for years and years to come.

What improvements have you witnessed over the years?

Aaronstone : I would say that things today are much more organized than they were back then in terms of battle outcomes and such. But I also feel it has a bit of a corporate feel to it nowadays which isnt always a good thing sometimes I think it gets in the way of armies being armies.
KingFunks4 : I have to agree and echo what Aaron said. Our army has become so well structured with these changes and it has really helped to sustain the army.

What do you think the past WV could learn from present WV, and vice versa?

Aaronstone : Honestly I dont think that those two eras could learn anything from each other so to speak because they are both in completely different eras of armies and how they operate.
KingFunks4 : I think the past could learn from the systems we have in place now, as before we were quite reliant on individuals, and nowadays I think it’s hard to look on the past but perhaps some of the care free nature of conflict!

Do you have any advice for the current members?

Aaronstone : Just keep working hard and keep battling to do the best that you can everyday and everything else will fall into place, be observant of veterans and how they do things and learn as much as you can. Take the initiative and stand out from the crowd.
KingFunks4 : Keep working hard to help the army, but mostly enjoy yourself. You are here to have a good time so enjoy those interactions you have with people and don’t take it too seriously.

Do you have anything to say, comparing the previous state of CPA and the newer state, any point of views, opinions, and perhaps advice/guidance on how it should continue?

(For Aaronstone’s answer, he forwarded us to a different post… https://cparmies.org/2025/10/29/an-appeal-to-heaven-how-to-fix-the-army-community/)
KingFunks4 : I think it’s important that armies today consider how they can increase conflict. Whether that is manufactured through more tournaments, or something else, as it would be good to see more interaction between armies.

All throughout this interview, we’ve learned how the old community worked and how the Water Vikings were standing years and years ago. It is always interesting to delve in the past. To be able to have a view of how things worked back then, and how we progressed until today. In this case, we can see that both Aaronstone and KingFunks4 were both invested leaders that only wanted the best for this army, and still are to this day. As the Water Vikings made them fear the wave many years ago, the water vikings are making everyone fear the wave today. Stay tuned for more!
